DCC/Arts event: How to balance academic freedom and data protection

DCC/Arts event: How to balance academic freedom and data protection In-Person

How can restricted access and re-use to sensitive data be organised within legal and ethical boundaries for optimal research scenarios that involve data mining? Copyright law and the GDPR provide exceptions to reconcile academic freedom of research and data protection. These exceptions depend on a balancing act and ethical standards. This requires a multi-stakeholder approach.

Based on real cases, a discussion about what contains a responsible data management plan will be presented. The interactive research session is organised by the Centre for Digital Humanities, the Digital Competence Centre and the legal department, In the second part of the session a roleplay will be executed. For this an active contribution of the participants is required. We hope it will be an engaging learning experience.
